DTG vs DTF vs Ultra DTF

DTG, DTF, and Ultra DTF are available on eligible products. Eligible tops support both front and back printing. Sleeve printing is not currently available, and pants and shorts are not printable.

Quick Answer

DTG prints ink directly onto the garment. DTF prints artwork onto film and transfers it onto fabric with adhesive and heat. Ultra DTF should be treated as a supplier-defined process positioned between DTG and standard DTF in the current supplier setup.

Why It Matters

The printing method affects hand feel, breathability, artwork handling, and customer expectations. It should be selected based on product type, artwork, print area, and the customer’s priority.

Common Misconceptions

Ultra DTF is not an industry-standard term in this knowledge system.
Ultra DTF should not be described as universally better than DTG.
Eligible tops support both front and back printing. Sleeve printing is not currently available, and bottoms—including pants, shorts, and sweatpants—are not printable.
Pants and shorts do not currently support POD printing.

Product Recommendations

Use eligible T-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, cropped hoodies, and cropped crewnecks for front and back print planning.
Do not recommend DTG, DTF, or Ultra DTF for shorts or sweatpants in the current setup.
